Diwali, festival of lights, commemorates the return of Lord Rama along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, from their 14-year-long exile and exterminating the evil king Ravana. In this auspicious celebration, the people of Ayodhya (capital of Rama), illuminated the kingdom with earthen diyas (lamps made of mud) and burst firecrackers.
